N005BetterMe Random Ideas

Joyce (the human)

Think of human capability as a simplified model: Hardware, OS, and Skills.

Hardware is talent and body — mostly fixed. Skills get built up over years of work. But OS — the underlying thinking patterns, abstraction ability, methodology — has only been patched, never fundamentally changed.

AI's biggest productivity boost is actually in learning. Picking up a new domain has become extremely fast. But fast onboarding doesn't mean your OS got upgraded — you might have just installed another app.

What does a real OS upgrade look like? It's being able to abstract how you do things into methodology. Not "I can use this tool," but "I can see the shared structure across this class of problems."

Math might be one path. Not for computation — for training abstraction ability. Stripping complex reality down to essential structure. Most of us barely touched advanced math after college. Maybe now is the time to revisit. The ROI of AI-assisted math learning could be high: concepts have strict dependency chains, so AI can pinpoint exactly where you're stuck; intuition requires heavy practice, and AI can generate unlimited targeted exercises.

A direction for BetterMe: not just helping you do things — helping you upgrade your OS.
